Portrait Photographer Munich – Benjamin Händel
I photograph people. I started behind the scenes, at concerts — that's where you learn to recognise the one moment before it's gone.
Later I also photographed in kindergartens. When fifty children hug a tree, you see fifty different ways of hugging a tree. Since then I haven't photographed anyone with a standard setup. I choose light, background and location fresh for each person — based on who's standing in front of the camera.
A portrait is a stage performance that stays. Every person has something that deserves a stage. We build that stage together: I bring ideas for composition, locations, light and props, and we develop what suits you on location.
I studied physics and philosophy. Physics taught me to look more closely. Philosophy asks how people show themselves — and what separates a role from a mask. Staging doesn't mean pretending. It creates the frame in which someone dares to be fully themselves.
That's why I take my time. Calm, conversation, the right pace — and then I'm ready when the moment comes.
